Villa Bendega (meaning ‘fisherman’ within Bahasa) borders a small sportfishing village of the same title in the district associated with Canggu, southwest Bali.

Villa Bendega Bedroom
Every bedroom in Villa has wonderful open views through the greener-than-green rice fields involving Canggu. The villa may accommodate eight men and women in three king-bedded suites and one twin room (which can convert in to a fourth king-bedded room). There is certainly capacity to add a couple of more fold-away beds for youngsters if required. All sleeping rooms are generously measured, tastefully furnished, and still have en-suite bathrooms and outside balconies.
Master Bedroom – Ground Floor – Purple Room Accessed by stepping stones across a garden pond, the first master bedroom is housed in its own pavilion at the front of the gardens, directly overlooking the rice fields. This room is private, peaceful and perfectly placed. A canopied, four-poster, king-size bed is the focus of the room, facing a private terrace and the rice fields beyond. Behind the bed is a large, walk-through, mirrored dressing area with enough wardrobe space for even the most extended of stays. The room is furnished with antique console tables, bedside cabinets and an easy chair upholstered in ikat fabric, custom-printed to match the other purple accessories in the room. A door at the side of the bedroom leads out to the pool and gardens. The en-suite bathroom is vast. At one end, again overlooking the rice fields, is a sunken double bathtub. Two wash basins are set in Travertine vanity tops running along the side of the bathroom while, at the far end, a large walk-in shower offers both rain shower and hand shower fittings.
Master Bedroom – Upstairs – The Orange Room This bedroom is positioned at the far right of the upper floor in the main building directly above the dining room. Accessed by a private walkway, a centrally placed, canopied, four-poster king-size bed looks out onto a private terrace with daybed which, in turn, overlooks the gardens, pool and rice fields. To the right of the bed is an antique yellow and green painted Javanese cupboard, on top of which are two painted wooden cockerels. Directly behind the bed, the dressing area leads through to another large en-suite bathroom presenting similar fittings to those in all the master bedrooms, but this time the super-size bathtub overlooks the gardens at rear of the villa. Adjoining the bedroom is a study equipped with a laptop computer and printer for guest use.
Master Bedroom – Upstairs – The Green Room At the opposite end of the upper floor another king-bedded master bedroom awaits. The large bathroom also has a separate shower and a large bathtub with views of the ocean. The room is furnished with teak console tables, bedside cabinets and an easy chair upholstered in ikat fabric, custom-printed to match the other green accessories in the room. A canopied king-size four-poster bed looks out over a full ‘wall’ of sliding glass doors that lead out onto a balcony furnished with colourful daybed which is shared with the twin room next door.
Twin Room – Upstairs – Turquoise Room Villa Bendega has been designed with families in mind and this twin-bedded room, with its turquoise accessories is ideal for children (the beds can be easily converted to a king size if preferred). This bedroom also features a 37-inch flat screen TV. Fitted wardrobes and shelving, an antique console, easy chair and bedside tables complete the furnishings. The en-suite bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower and double wash basins
Surrounded by terraced rice fields and only five minutes’ walk from the beach and the extraordinarily romantic Hotel Tugu, Villa Bendega (meaning ‘fisherman’ in Bahasa) borders a small fishing village of the same name in the district of Canggu, southwest Bali. Despite its rural setting the villa is only 20 minutes’ drive from the restaurants and shops of cosmopolitan Seminyak, an hour from Bali’s cultural centre of Ubud, and 30 minutes from the international airport.
One of the greatest advantages of staying in a villa is the personal service provided by a dedicated team of professional staff. With this in mind, the team at Villa Bendega have been thoughtfully recruited according to their skills, personality and (in many cases) membership of the local village community. Their aim is to look after every villa guest – from toddler to grandparent – in true Balinese style by understanding individual expectations and preferences. The Villa Manager and Chef, in particular, will be only too delighted to discuss your desires or concerns and do what they can to guarantee a relaxed and enjoyable holiday. Full time manager: Our villa manager, Harsana, is responsible for the overall operation of Villa Bendega including staffing, special requests and guest satisfaction. He is fluent in both English and Japanese. Full time Chef: Our chef, Made, has had more than 10 years experience in both Asian and Western cuisine. At the villa daily to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner, he is happy to accommodate any special requests or dietary needs. Dinner parties and other special events can also be catered for. Butlers : Four butlers attend daily to all cleaning and tidying requirements at Villa Bendega. The same team are skilled waiters/waitresses and will assist the kitchen at mealtimes. Driver: A driver and seven-seater car are available to villa guests for up to 10 hours a day (excluding petrol). Rates also include airport pick-up and drop-off. Gardeners and pool attendants: The gardens and pool at Villa Bendega are tended daily. Spa Staff/Masseuse: Off-site, fully-trained spa staff will visit the villa on request to provide a range of spa and massage treatments. Security: Villa Bendega is kept safe and secure 24 hours a day by security staff working rotating shifts.
The villa is entered via gates which slide open to reveal a 2m-high black-stone Buddha head serenely welcoming visitors to the property. The entry courtyard provides ample room for parking and is dotted with frangipani, oil palms, jasmine, yuccas and African tulip trees. Guests walk over sandstone steps across a large koi-filled pond to the main entrance doors.
Across the lawn, directly opposite the sitting room, the 11m x 11m stone-tiled infinity-edged swimming pool overlooks the rice fields. As well as being large enough for some serious swimming, the pool is perfectly positioned for sunset cocktails, which can be enjoyed from the wide stone ‘shelves’ set into the pool at just the right depth. To the right of the pool a large open-sided pavilion is home to a huge L-shaped daybed, upholstered in waterproof orange Sunbrella fabric and scattered with bright, sunny cushions; and you can roll straight into the pool from the matching beanbags at the edge of the pool deck. The round table and chairs at the centre of the pool pavilion will seat up to 10 people for casual outdoor dining. This is a great place to congregate at the start of the day for a ‘come-as-you-please’ breakfast. Behind a sliding louvered door at one side of the pool pavilion is a water cooler, bar fridge and sink neatly set into cupboards and counter top. Around the corner from here a door leads into a guest changing room with toilet and shower.

A Sonos digital music system, with several thousand playtracks sorted into a wide variety of genres, can be controlled remotely from anywhere within the villa. Different tracks or playlists can be played in the pool pavilion, dining room, sitting room, library and games room or gym. iPods can also be connected to the Sonos system and iPod docks and speakers are provided in all the bedrooms.
The library has a 50-inch, wall mounted flat screen TV and DVD player with more than 50 satellite channels. Two additional flat-screen TVs can be found in the gym and the twin bedroom.
Communications
Phones are situated in all bedrooms and living areas at Villa Bendega. An in-house phone system allows guests to make calls to other areas of the villa, including to the manager’s office or kitchen, and all phones can make IDD calls which are charged at cost.
A laptop computer and printer are available to guests in the study and a further printer and facsimile machine can be found in the villa manager’s office.
WiFi internet facilities are available throughout the villa and gardens should guests wish to use their own laptops.
Other facilities
Air conditioning is available in all bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as in the kitchen, dining room, gym (which can also be fan cooled), library and games room. The sitting area and pool pavilion are cooled with overhead fans.
All bedrooms contain safety deposit boxes.
Laundry needs will be attended to by villa staff (using a local laundry service)

Wine & Dine
Suggestion menus are available at the villa for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it is highly recommended that guests meet with the villa manager and chef at the start of their stay to discuss food likes and dislikes (or even food cravings), special dietary needs and meal schedules. An open dialogue will keep both chef and guests happy! It is also necessary to discuss meals in advance (ideally 24 hours) to allow the chef the time he needs to prepare and provision.
Daily breakfast is included in the villa rate, but all other provisions will be purchased by the chef and charged to guests at cost plus a small service charge. Receipts will be provided either daily or at the end of the stay – as preferred. It is also requested that the chef be given a ‘float’ to cover the grocery shopping. Guests are welcome to self-cater and buy their own groceries should they prefer; just let the chef know that his services will not be required.
Once all the admin is sorted out, guests can relax and enjoy delicious home-cooked food – Asian and Western – prepared where and when they like. The chef loves to delight villa guests with his beautifully presented dishes – from roasted vegetable salads, to Balinese chicken curry, to nasi goreng (friend rice), to steak and chips. His deserts are not to be missed either – or his home-made jams and chutneys. He is happy to try out new dishes and even to share his kitchen with guests – especially if they can show him how to prepare their favourite dishes.
Wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks are also available on request and will be charged for at the end of your stay.
